Harbor’s latest issue of their newsletter, Currents #91 is about security and M2M applications. Here’s a quotation:
"If You Do Not Adapt, You Are Vulnerable -- Ignoring this warning and failing to adapt to the changing requirements of our new networked society can lead to enormous consequences for organizations and customers. In an unsettling example, recently TJX Co., owner of retail outlets TJ Maxx, Bob’s Stores, and Marshall’s, fell victim to a security breach when a hacker accessed their internal accounting system through an insufficiently-protected point of sale terminal. The hackers stole the credit and debit card information of over 45 million customers, resulting in lawsuits and backlash that reportedly could cost TJX Co. nearly $1 billion and may jeopardize the very company itself."
As a provider of M2M-based remote monitoring and control services we learned this lesson early and totally subscribe to Harbor’s views on the subject.
